ADDITIONAL BATHROOMS: DESIGNING YOUR GUEST & KIDS’ BATHROOMS

AdminRoom by Room Design Discussions

Bathrooms. We all have, want, and need them – since most of us don’t want to use an outhouse these days!

While bathrooms are utilitarian, they should also be well designed and attractive! During this article, we are going to be discussing things to consider when designing your guest and kids’ bathrooms.

LOCATION

The first thing to consider are the general locations of these bathrooms.
To do so, discuss who will be using them. Guests? Children? Where in your home do you feel a bathroom will serve your needs best?

QUANTITY
Next, discuss how many bathrooms are needed to be sufficient for your needs. Below are some questions to help you do so.

  • Are there additional bedrooms that need ensuites?
  • Do you need half baths for living areas?
  • Will your children each have their own, or will they share a bathroom?
  • If you have a pool, will you need an easily accessible pool bathroom?

After discussing the questions above, note the areas / rooms you would like a bathroom in, or near.

SIZE & FEATURES
The last part of designing your additional bathrooms, is discussing size and features needed for each bathroom. This will largely depend on who will be using the bathroom and how often. Below are some things to consider.

  • Full Bath – Shower Only
  • Full Bath – Tub & Shower
  • Half Bath – NO Tub or Shower
  • Ensuite – Private Bath for a Bedroom
  • Jack & Jill – Shared between 2 Rooms
  • Separate Toilet Room
  • Double Sinks – Same Counter
  • Double Vanities
  • Wet Room – Tub is in the Shower Area

CONCLUSION
After discussing the locations, quantities, size, and features of your additional bathrooms, we are now ready to get started on designing them!
