DESIGNING YOUR DINING AREA
Over the last couple of months, we have discussed Living Area & Kitchen Layouts. Through these discussions, you can see how closely related these areas are.
In this article, we will discuss another area closely tied to the Living and Kitchen, the DINING AREA.
In this article, we will discuss 3 Common Layouts for Dining Areas. Of course, as with all of our custom home designs, we can can design this space with your own unique spin!
GREAT ROOM DINING:
This layout has the Dining Area “in line” with the Kitchen and Living Areas. All three areas are part of one large room. See the example below.
OFF-SET DINING:
This layout has the Dining Area set off to one side of the Kitchen.
While this layout option can still be part of a Great Room, it also offers a bit more separation from the larger space. See the example below.
FORMAL DINING:
This layout has the Dining Area completely separated in its own room. While this layout option would still be located close to the kitchen, it provides a private area to enjoy meals. See the example below.
OTHER CONSIDERATIONS:
When designing a family’s Dining Area, we also need to consider the family’s lifestyle and what they need in the Dining Area.
Below of some things to consider:
- Location in relation to the kitchen and pantry.
- How does the family function at meal times?
- How many people does the table need to seat?
- Will there be other furniture?
- Hutch?
- Buffet / Serving Space?
- Built-Ins?
Once we have the answers to these questions, we can then start designing the perfect Dining Area for your family!
