MOST COMMON LAYOUTS

The living area is a major hub of any home.
This is where people gather and enjoy spending time with their friends and family.

For this reason, it is very important to understand how you want this part of your home to function and flow. Think about the questions below.

  • How do you use your current living area?
  • What works and what doesn’t work for you?

Now, let’s discuss a few of our most common living area layouts.

LINEAR OPEN CONCEPT / GREAT ROOM:

Linear Open Concept / Great Room Living Areas have been popular for quite some time and allows families to be together while multiple activities are in progress.

Perhaps someone is working in the kitchen, another person is watching TV, while the child is doing homework at the dining table. With a Linear Open Concept/ Great Room layout, they can all still be “together” in the same large room

L-SHAPED OPEN CONCEPT:

An L-Shaped Open Concept Living Area is another common layout we often design.
This allows the main areas of the home to be open to each other, without it being one large rectangular room.

In this layout, the kitchen, living, or dining area (or part of it) is a set off to the side with just a bit more separation.

FORMAL LIVING:

A Formal Living has separation from other parts of the home and provides a more formal and private atmosphere. Televisions are often excluded from this room, as it is designed for entertaining guests.

Even if you want an Open Concept / Great Room in your home, you can also add an
additional Formal Living if you entertain often.
