CLOSET ISLAND SPECIFICS
An island is a favorite, especially for people who travel a lot!
It’s the perfect place to put your suitcase as you pack for that perfect family
vacation or romantic getaway.
The island is also a great place to decorate for those who like seasonal decor to set
the mood. And, functionally, it is a great replacement for dressers in the bedroom.
However, there are some special considerations if you want an island.
CLOSET SIZE
Islands really impact the size of the closet. You will need a walking path that is a
minimum of 2′ 8″ inches around the island. Another 2′ will then be needed for
adequate space to hang clothes.
ISLAND SIZE
The minimum size for a closet island is probably 2′ x 4′. This allows for one side to
have drawers. However, if you want both sides to have drawers you will need the
island to be 4′ wide.
WHAT ARE YOUR WANTS AND NEEDS?
Think about your current closet, and those you may have had previously.
What do / did you like about it? What do / did you dislike about it?
Now, discus the considerations above.
Once you’ve had some time to think about it, create a list of your CLOSET MUST
HAVES. A list of DISLIKES can also be helpful, so we know what to avoid.
Once we have these lists, we can then start designing a Master Closet that will fit
your lifestyle and needs!
Below are some examples of closet considerations.
