Holiday Planning & Your Home Design

Admin News

As Thanksgiving quickly approaches, with Christmas and New Years on its heels, now is a good time to consider your holiday needs for your dream home.

Planning, preparing, and keeping up with everyday tasks in November and December can be quite a challenge. So, daydreaming about your dream home may fall at the bottom of your priority list. HOWEVER, we challenge you to do just that.

As you decorate, plan, and execute all of your holiday festivities, think about the things (related to these activities) that drive you crazy about your current home.

What makes the holidays a hassle for you?
What would make your life a bit easier during the holidays?

Here, we outline three things to consider when it comes to planning for the holidays in your dream home:

  1. Entertaining Space
  2. Designated Storage Space
  3. Space Planning for Decorations

ENTERTAINING SPACE

Consistently, our clients want to ensure they have enough entertainment space in their dream home for their holiday and family gatherings. So, when planning your dream home, you should think about these gatherings and your needs.

BELOW ARE SOME QUESTIONS TO PONDER.

  1. Does your current home function well for these gatherings?
  2. If so, what makes it function so well and do you want something similar?
  3. In not, what is your biggest frustrations with your current home?
Answering these questions can really help you, and us, begin to understand what you want and need for entertaining space in your dream home.

Creating a Vision Board of what you want and think you will need can also be helpful! Find images of spaces that you like. Then make notes of what you like about those images!

DESIGNATED STORAGE SPACE

Another priority that our clients generally have is storage space, especially for their Christmas decorations! Often, a designated space for the Christmas tree is at the top of the list. However, there are many other things to consider:

  • How much space do you need?
  • Will your tree be stored upright?
  • Do you want to avoid stairs?
  • Do you want to avoid tall shelving that requires a ladder / step stool?
  • Do you want to separate your decorations by season / holiday?

Once you have the answers to these questions, we will better be able to design an adequate storage space that will function as you want and need it to.

SPACE PLANNING FOR DECORATIONS

While this may not seem like a high priority compared to other design considerations for your dream home, it is something to consider when you are reviewing your floor plan during the design process. We want to avoid yearly frustration as you try to find a good space for your tree and decorations.

CONCLUSION

We know that the holiday season is hectic and you don‘t need additional stress and frustrations each year because your dream home wasn‘t designed with these items in mind.

Our goal is to help you design your dream home that functions in a way that makes you HAPPY ALL YEAR THROUGH!

OUR CHALLENGE TO YOU:

As you go through this holiday season, take the time to make notes about design choices that would make the season more enjoyable.

We hope you find this article helpful and that it leads to great design discussions!
May you have a blessed Thanksgiving and a very Merry Christmas!!
